Cutler who's Grandfather 'George Theophilus' was of Greek descent have carried out Greek Orthodox Funerals at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and St. Luke in Erdington, the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of Theotokos & St.Andreas in Birmingham, the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Walsall and the First Greek Orthodox Church in England - All Saints Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camden Town, London.
Edward John Funerals offer a selection of handpicked Religious Coffins to suit families of the Greek Orthodox Faith, handcarved to depict religious scenes such as 'The Crown of Thorns', 'The Pietra', 'The Foot of the Cross', 'Lourdes', 'Knock' and 'The Last Supper'. Basic Coffins also available at the request of the family.
Families can participate in the washing and dressing of their loved one at the Funeral Home before viewing in the Chapel of Rest. The Team will supply the Traditional Burial Shroud which will be placed over the deceased once in the Coffin.
Whilst in the Chapel of Rest for viewing, Incense and Olive leaves are burned and Holy Icons are displayed. The Priest may also wish visit the Funeral Home to bless the body of the deceased. Traditional Greek and Cypriot Wines will be available 'Commandaria' and 'Mavrodaphne'.
Edward John Funerals will provide the boiled wheat, soil, water and olive oil which are placed underneath the Coffin during the service in Church then either placed inside the Coffin or on top of the Coffin at the Cemetery. At the Cemetery, the Team provide the 'Parigoria' which is the traditional meal served after the Burial to mourners at the Funeral, made up of Black Olives, Halloumi Cheese, Daktyla Village Bread, seasoned with Oregano and accompanied by Traditional Greek and Cypriot Sweet Wines 'Commandaria' and 'Mavrodaphne'.
